About Us
The Cedar Valley Chamber Music Festival began in 2006 the result of Artistic Director Hunter Capoccioni' vision. In June 2006 music lovers witnessed the first two concerts of the Cedar Valley Music Festival. At each performance the attendance and response was overwhelming; enough so that what was a first time artistic experiment has now expanded, not only into an annual event, but has been formalized as a non-profit organization. Hunter has always been aware of the uncommonly high quality of musical talent in this community. The Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra, the UNI School of Music, the Metropolitan chorale, and other community choruses, the Hearst center, community playhouses, and metro-area bands -- all create an artistic atmosphere many communities larger than us do not enjoy.
For years Hunter has dreamed to be able to employ this sizeable talent in a way that has not had much exposure in our community. Chamber Music is an intimate and magical environment that blurs the separation of performers and audience. One voice performing one part creates subtleties that invite the listener to a deeper, more personal and enjoyable experience. The Cedar Valley Chamber Music Festival intends to foster the development of this festival into one that will be unique to our area and Iowa. The 2008 season was a “Patriotic/American” theme and was expanded across all three concerts. The season should was a celebration not only of our American heritage but Iowa’s complete cultural heritage. Iowa joined the union in 1847, and has a historically strong connection to Norwegian, Czech, German, and French culture. The 2008 Season took a look at Iowa during the middle-late 19th century through the eyes of these cultural communities.
The Cedar Valley Chamber Music Festival exists to show case local and regional musicians performing a diverse repertoire in intimate settings. The festival is dedicated to developing new audiences through education and community outreach. Cedar Valley Music Festival uses music as a gateway for the children and adults of the Cedar Valley, Iowa community to learn more about our history and heritage by pairing our music with historical facts, literature, art and other areas.
